Yes, a SERIES of posts about how to make your website faster! Cool right?
Here are the chapters – grab your coffee, get a notebook – and snuggle up with your favorite fur friend for some good reading!
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Seeing some with websites that take over 10 seconds to load makes me so upset and I personally wanted to try and do something to help!
With Google using speed as a factor for rank – it is important to understand how and why your website is running slow and what you can do to fix it. Not only will you make Google happy – more importantly you will be making your visitors happy – and that is priceless!
Originally we were going to do a full case study of 1 website and outline the steps we took to solve their issues – and while we will still do that – we thought a full series of posts will be better!
HOW WILL THIS SERIES HELP YOU?
Each post will break down the speed optimization in an easy to understand way.
We will focus on one speed issue per post – help you understand that issue and then offer solutions that you can use on your website if you have the issue.
Doing one post with a full case study may be overwhelming to some – but smaller chunks in shorter posts should be much easier to manage and understand by non-technical website owners!
Tip: Treat this like a “course” – you will be given instructions and tools then you do your homework and in the end – you have a well oiled machine!
WHAT WILL BE COVERED?
- Tools to use to evaluate page speed – and what not to use
- Image optimization
- How to improve speed WITHOUT plugins – yes really this is a thing
- Plugins you can use to improve page speed – because we know sometimes this is needed
- An overview of what typically slows down websites
- ….and more!
HOW WILL THE PAGE SPEED SERIES WORK?
We will do a minimum of 1 post a week that will feature a real live website page speed issue and how we fix it.
We will just focus on ONE issue for each post to make it easy to digest and allow you to follow it easily and implement on your own website.
IS THIS ONLY FOR WORDPRESS?
The tips we give for speeding up the website will be for WordPress, but the dissection of the problems and what they mean can be applied to most CMS systems.
If we can find resolutions for the problems for Blogger or WordPress hosted platforms we will try to include those.
WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO SEE MY WEBSITE FASTER IN THE TOOLS?
This is a question that cannot really be answered!
It may only be 1 item that is causing your slow load time – or it may be several items. So if you monitor our series – and keep an eye out for what may be causing your slow page loads, hopefully one of our posts will help you!
IF I FIX MY PAGE SPEED WHEN CAN I EXPECT MY RANK TO IMPROVE?
Again, a hard question to answer! Remember page speed is only a PORTION of what makes up your rank. So even if your website is super fast – if you have other issues going on, you website may still not improve.
This is where a website audit can make all the difference!
But – at the least you will have a fast loading page – which is MORE CRITICAL for your users than the search engines anyway. Ultimately every thing you do should be for your users…..
If you question whether improving page speed can help traffic, you can read the case study that Tung Tran from Cloud Living did called 22 Tips To Speed Up WordPress Site Performance. He successfully increased his organic traffic by 39% in under 30 days!
CAN I ASK QUESTIONS IN THE SERIES?
Of course! If there is a post in the series that makes you have some questions – ask away.
Just keep in mind that we are busy bees over here and we may not respond immediately….but will do so when time allows!
We would love to see everyone helping each other out so if others know the answer – we hope they can chime in too!
