I started working with a new client back in May – a challenging niche that I was almost tempted to turn down as a client since the words he was hoping to rank for are super competitive and some that even the most experienced SEO teams may balk at. (Not that I am not experienced of course – but there are always those out there that are better right?) 🙂
It has not been easy — and we still have lots to do, but to date we have made amazing progress. I am posting these results to show that even with a site that is not super trendy or modern and with limited content you can still rank well. Kind of proving the theory that white hat back-link building DOES still work in conjunction with good onsite optimization.
So, the project started early May. I did some optimization on site, local optimization for map listings and lots of offsite work. (Cannot give away too many details there – but everything I do is white hat and ethical.) The last thing I want is for a clients ranking to plummet because of something I have done!
Here are the list of keywords we are targeting – all are NYC based, so the hope is that the results will show him if someone from within the NYC area types in any of these terms.
cognitive behavioral therapy
oppositional defiant disorder
attention deficit disorder
social anxiety disorder
family therapy nyc
Now, let me be clear – except for that last term – these are INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT terms to rank for. The client was aware it could take months to get results – and I do not suggest using terms this difficult for your own websites!
But here are the results over the last 3 months in Google:
cognitive behavioral therapy — started with no rank – now at 125
oppositional defiant disorder — still not ranking
attention deficit disorder — still not ranking
social anxiety disorder — started with no rank – now at 147
child psychologist — started with no rank – now at 7 — YES, REALLY!
behavioral therapy — started with no rank – now at 118
family therapy nyc — started at 68 – now at 12
More importantly is that his visits are up! A lot!
June 2013 compared to June 2014 resulted in a 50% increase in visits in Google! July 2013 versus July 2014 resulted in a 108% increase in organic traffic.
And to ramp up the excitement of all of this, we have “child psychologist” on page 1 – 4 times! Yes- FOUR TIMES he appears on the first page! (Some may only see 3 listings depending on location and browser settings) – but all in all whether there are 3 or 4 listings – it is pretty awesome!
Why may some see different results? Google is very smart and kind of creepy! It knows where you live and what you visit. If you live in the NYC area and have some kind of connection to this doctor like through Google+ you may see 4 listings for his practice. If you are logged out of Google you may only see 3 listings if you change the search area to NYC. I was logged in to Google when I took this screen capture which is why I see 4. I know — confusing!
But here is the screen capture with the 4 listings! Now, let’s be clear – I CANNOT guarantee results like this — and if I could, it would be expensive! 🙂 But it is possible to have difficult terms rank…you just need lots of patience and time!
